Ages 10-17
At this point the the class progression, all students must be evaluated before enrolling in a class. Placement Day evaluations are held in the spring prior to the next season. All new students enrolling after Placement Day will need to contact the studio to arrange an evaluation. This is to ensure all students are enrolled at the level best suited for their dance growth.
Progression from one level to the next generally takes 2-3 years. Please note that absences in excess of 4 per class per semester (August through December and January through May) without makeups can/will result in a dancer being moved down a level.
Students at this point should not skip semesters of class and should attend the entire season to keep their technique up. Skipping a semester is detrimental on their dance progression.
Many factors are considered in the assessment process:
-
Placement Day performance
-
Maturity and application of proper dance/class etiquette
-
Recognition of terminology
-
Comprehension of skills
-
Proper execution of skills
-
Consistent Attendance
-
Age-the student's age will not be the dominant deciding factor but, as a general rule of thumb, the below are considered the average age group per level:
-
Pre-Teen- ages 10-13
-
Teen- ages 12-14
-
Junior- ages 13-18
-
Senior- ages 13-18
-
Placement assignments are based on collaborative evaluation by the DAB instructors. Each level assignment will be determined in what we believe will be the best interest of each dancer moving into the next season. We ask that you please trust the integrity of this process.
Last day to enroll in classes is January 12, 2027.
Pre-Teen
The students at the Pre-Teen level should understand how to follow tempo, start to develop consistency in executing skills and understanding them. Pre-Teens should take class seriously by focusing on the teacher and the skill being studied, showing up ready to dance, and not distracting peers.

Focus: Learning and absorbing dance vocabulary and basics. Studying the core foundation of each technique.
Teen
The students at the teen level have more of a basic understanding of the technique they are studying. They are still developing consistency and are able to find the beat/tempo easily. They should be able to understand how to count and/or move with the musical phrases. Like Pre-Teens, Teens should show up ready to dance and work.

Focus: Foundations, Control and Coordination, Expression, Timing, and Spacial Awareness
Junior
The students at the Junior level should follow everything that the Teens follow as well as having more control in their dancing and movement, are able to learn quicker, have stronger technique, and the willingness to try new things.

Focus: Fluidity, Stregth and Expression, Clean Technique, Musicality, Timing, Body Awareness, and Coordination
The students at the Senior level should follow everything that the Juniors follow as well as having clean execution in their dancing and movement, utilize strong performance quality, and have leadership in class and among the Juniors, Teens, and Pre-Teens.
